How IYC Takes Shape
Have you ever wondered how IYC comes together?
It starts usually three to four years in advance. The IYC director does a site visit to the convention city to contract with the convention center and the hotels. The Youth Ministry Team (YMT) and the Youth Network Team (YNT) decided on a sequence of four rotating cities, with the option of a wildcard fifth city. These cities provide different types of experiences and terrains. The four target cities* are San Antonio, Texas; Orlando, Florida; Denver, Colorado; and Nashville, Tennessee.
Once the city is confirmed, the Student Leadership Team (SLT) meets with the YMT in the convention city, usually during the winter eighteen months before the upcoming convention. Together, they plan the main components of the schedule, speaker, and artist choices. They come back together approximately twelve months before the convention to complete the student conference schedule planning and leader selection.
The IYC director, event planners, and other key staff members make numerous trips during the two-year period between conventions to make sure that things are in order for you to experience life change.
Everything is put through this grid: Will this help create a moment for life change? Because we believe that prayer unleashes God’s power, hundreds of prayer partners start to pray for the convention months before it starts. A prayer guide goes out to all churches in the early months of the convention year. The name of every preregistered attendee is sent to a prayer partner to pray over before the convention. If you have attended the pre-convention prayer walk service, you know that a team of prayer intercessors also prays for the convention areas where IYC is held.
As IYC2010 approaches, start to pray with us for life change in all who attend.
* These cities are subject to change if fair convention rates cannot be negotiated.
